Mark's 1 Patrician 3

Having reached the last eight St Mark's interest in the Jim Byrne Cup ended in Ringsend yesterday. Fortune did not favour the home team when after giving away a needless penalty, a Mark's player was sent off for stupidly verbally abusing the referee. Despite this 10 man Mark's played the final hour of the game brilliantly and created many chances. Russell White scored a late goalto make it 2-1. Men of the match Mick Corcoran and Russell White.

Mark's 2 Chancery 2
Mark's win 4-3 on pens

After a recent bumpy patch Mark's steadied the ship with a close fought victory in the Jim Byrne cup in ringsend yesterday. The win came via a penalty shootout in which JJ Dunne saved twice. The game was graced by a brace of Karl O'Grady goals. The first a 30 yard volley is a contender for goal of the season. The second a close in shot from a Gary Trehy through ball. There were many great performances, but man of the match was JJ Dunne for a great midfield performance and saving 2 penalties! Roll on next saturday when Mark's play Patricians FC in the quarter finals.

St Mark's 0 Peamount 4

Mark's played host to table toppers Peamount who brought their unbeaten record to Ringsend yesterday. The game was effectively over after 15 minutes when Mark's found themselves three goals down. They steadied the ship and kept the visitors out until the dying moments of the game. MOM Norman Noonan for a great centre half display

Bluebell Utd 8- St Marks 1

Ouch!!!! - Mark's got their asses well and truly kicked by an excellent Bluebell Utd team in Walkinstown last night. Bluebell moved the ball as you would expect from a team having players who graced the highest levels of football in England and Ireland. Having said that Mark's had many opportunities to score and spent a lot of time camped in the Bluebell half. Naturally heads are down, but real character is shown in adversity. It's time to pull together and put on a good show against Peamount in Ringsend on sat. MOM Jonathan Smyth for a battling and motivational performance.

Bacchus 0- St Marks 4

Mark's advanced in the Jim Byrne Cup in a sunny St Anne's Park this afternoon. With the Mark's defence rock solid Bacchus rarely penetrated and the away team were deserved winners. Jono Scanlan opened the scoring with a well flighted free kick from the edge of the area. Gary Trehy scored two from close in and Tony Roe scored from the spot. MOM was Gary Trehy for two goals and a non stop running display.Other standout performers were Maurice and Kevin Byrne (with a combined age of 100+) who rolled back the years!

Walkinstown Utd 2 St Mark's 7

Mark's scored their biggest win of the season with a 7-2 victory in Walkinstown yesterday evening. It was 4-0 at half time and Mark's were sitting pretty, but the home team scored twice to get back into the game. At 4-2 Mark's put on the afterburners and scored another 3. MOM Gary Trehy with a 4 goal haul! Other scorers Jono Smyth(1), Jono Scanlan(1), Damien O'Neill(1).

Ashbourne 1 Mark's 1
Marks lose 5-4 on pens

Mark's exited the Clifford Cup 5-4 on penalties in Ashbourne yesterday after a battling performance. It was 1-1 at full time with the Mark's goal coming from Jono Scanlan. The game was littered with heavy tackles and fouls against the Mark's players. The referee who has a duty to protect the well being of players appeared to leave his cards at home and never got a grip on proceedings. The stand out performers were Vinnie Brown,Tony Roe,Simon Mooney,Jono Scanlan and Derek McCarthy MOM Simon Mooney. View a video of the penalty shootout here. Best of luck to Ashbourne in the rest of their fixtures. ROLL ON NEXT SAT WHEN MARKS GO AGAIN IN THE LAST 16 OF THE JIM BYRNE CUP!

Mark's 0 CIE Ranch 6

Any lingering league aspirations were buried tonight when Mark's shipped six goals without reply against an excellent CIE Ranch. It's sobering to think that in the whole of last league campaign Mark's only conceded 15 goals.Thoughts now turn to the two remaining cups. If mark's can get a full squad out there is no reason why they can't do well. Stand out performers for Mark's were Jono scanlan, Norman Noonan,Simon Mooney and Alesandro Sforza. Roll on saturday when Mark's play Ashbourne Utd in the last 16 of the Clifford Cup. MOM Jono Scanlan.

End of Season

We are still involved in the shake up for two cups and the league. As a consequence the games will be coming thick and fast. It's time for everyone to put their shoulder to the wheel. With a bit of luck and good football we might land something this season.

Mark's 5 Raheny Utd 4

Having forgotten where they left it Mark's found their mojo today when the put on a spirited performance to beat Raheny Utd 5-4. Raheny are an excellent team that play neat football and are riding high in the league. They put it up to Mark's and they were met head on. The title may be just beyond Mark's, but this result puts the runner up spot within range. In addition, there are still 2 cups to play for. All played well with stand out performances from Alesandro Sforza, Mick Corcoran, John dooley, Paul Kelly and Jono Scanlan. Man of the match Mick Corcoran/Jonathan Scanlan - too close to separate. Scorers: PAUL KELLY, DEREK MCCARTHY;NORMAN NOONAN;DAMIEN O'NEILL;JONATHAN SCANLAN HAPPY EASTER!

Walkinstown Ath 2 St Mark's 3

St Mark's grabbed three points in perfect conditions in Walkinstown yesterday. They were 2-0 up at half time with excellent goals from Jonathan Scanlan and Paul Kelly. It should have been game over but Mark's concentration dipped and they conceded 2 sloppy goals to make it all square. The stalemate continued until 5 minutes from the whistle when Gary Trehy finished brilliantly to secure the victory. Everyone played well but the MOM was Simon Mooney for an accomplished performance.

Peamount 4 St Mark's 1

Playing one of the best over 35 teams in the country St Mark's gave a good account of themselves yesterday. After an hour it was locked at 1-1 with Damien O'Neill netting for St Mark's. In the last half hour the superior fitness and technique of Peamount came to the fore and they netted three times. After this defeat the hunt for silverware this season will now turn to the Jim Byrne and Clifford Cups. There were many strong performances but according to John Dooley he was outstanding and man of the match. We send best wishes to Rolandas Krukauskas who broke his ankle in training on thurs. You can text him on 0851489093.

Brendan's 2- St Marks 2
(0-3 on penalties)

A depleted Mark's team progressed into the last 32 of the Jim Byrne Cup in Grangegorman yesterday via a penalty shootout. All the goals came in the first half with Gary Trehy and Karl O'Grady netting for Mark's. After a goalless second half came a dramatic penalty shoot out. After 3 attempts each Mark's had scored three and St Brendans none. It's a funny old game indeed! The man of the match was Gerry O'Dwyer for an accomplished full back performance.

Mark's 1 Dundrum 4

St Marks went down to their heaviest league defeat since the 04-05 season yesterday when they were outplayed by a fitter and leaner Dundrum Athletic team. This was despite a dream start when they were awarded a penalty after two minutes that was converted by Eddie Fitzsimons. Dundrum fought back and levelled by half time. The roof caved in in the last half hour when the away team scored three times(two handed to them on a plate). Games are won and lost in the midfield engine room and Mark's were outfought and outplayed in that department. It was hard to pick a Mark's man of the match but honourable mentions go to Justin(JJ) Dunne, Rolandas Krukauskas, Simon Mooney and Jono Scanlan.

Greystones 1 Mark's 2

Mark's gained maximum points by the seaside against an improved Greystones Utd yesterday. Marks led 2-1 at half time thanks to two goals from Eddie Fitzsimons (one a real beauty). The home team pulled one back and it was 2-2 with minutes to go when Ian McManus netted to take all three points. A close call, but Mark's are still hanging in there. Man of the match Eddie Fitzsimons.

Mark's 2 Shalke FC 1

Having received a bye in the first round, Mark's progressed into the last 16 of the Clifford cup with a deserved win over Shalke Rovers in Ringsend yesterday. After an hour they were winning 2-0 with goals from Karl O'Grady and Rolandas Krukauskas. It should have been game over, but a defensive misunderstanding let in Shalke for 2-1. The score does not reflect the level of Mark's domination of the game but in truth Mark's were below par. Man of the match Paul Kelly. More details of the Clifford Cup here.

CIE Ranch 2 St Mark's 1

St Mark's dropped their first points of the current campaign on a bright crisp winter's day in Ballyfermot. CIE opened the scoring after half an hour with a back post header. Mark's continued to battle and with 20 mins to go Jono scanlan scored after a goal mouth scramble to make it all square. It seemed like Mark's had gained a deserved point but a defensive error in the last minute let in Ranch to take all three points. This performance against one of the better teams in the Division shows that Mark's are not far off the pace. All the teams have dropped at least two points. Man of the match Mick Corcoran.

Mark's 2 Bluebell 1

Mark's had not settled when they found themselves a flukey goal down after 10 mins. They soon got a grip of the game but a combination of poor finishing and anxiety left them still behind with a half hour to go. At last, Damien O'Neill struck to make it 1-1. Gerry O'Dwyer then made a great save to keep it all square. The deadlock was broken by Zsolt Vincze who netted after the Bluebell 'keeper fumbled the ball. The away team then imploded and had three players sent off in the last 20 minutes. Nice to finish the year with a 100% record in the league. Man of the match was Mick Corcoran. Happy Christmas to all!

St Marks Ath 2 Glenville 0

The match in Ringsend yesterday was preceded by a well observed minute's silence in memory of Barry Byrne a former manager of St Mark's who passed away recently. May he rest in peace. Glenville, as usual, brought their neat passing game and provided stiff opposition. Mark's dominated from the first and deservedly led 2-0 at the break. The first a Jono Scanlan daisy cutting 20 yard free kick that nestled in the bottom corner. The second a back post header from Rolandas off a deep Ian Mcmanus cross. In the second half Glenville pressed hard and were denied a goal from the penalty spot by Gerry O'Dwyer. That Mark's kept a clean sheet was down to an excellent back five performance. Paul Kelly deserves a special mention for an excellent debut. Man of the match was 'keeper Gerry O'Dwyer for an excellent stint between the posts. NEXT GAME. HOME TO BLUEBELL UTD ON SAT 12 DEC. KO 2PM.

St Mark's 1 Ratoath Harps 2

St Mark's indifferent start to the season continued yesterday when they went down 1- 2 to an underpowered Ratoath Harps. Ratoath could hardly believe it when they found themselves 2 goals up at half time. From Mark's point of view the goals were two of the sloppiest conceded in a long time. Mark's spent the 2nd period camped in the Harp's half and missed a series of gilt edged chances. The MOM was Jonathan Scanlan for a great 20 yard converted free kick, keeping it simple and doing the basics right. An object lesson for all.

St Mark's 1 Marino 1

St Mark's gained their first point of the season with a battling performance in Ringsend yesterday. The Mark's equalizer, that came in the 92nd minute, made one point feel like three. Marino were strong and committed and went ahead in the first half with a great strike from 25 yards. With minutes left, they looked like getting all three points. A draw was salvaged when Zsolt Vincze smashed the ball home from an great Ian McManus cross. Man of the Match: JJ Dunne for an superb centre half performance.

Mark's 0 Chancery 2

Mark's were left in no doubt that they are now in a higher division after a tough match against Chancery in Ringsend yesterday. Mark's lost despite having the majority of possession and chances. It is clear that this league will be very physical and there will be no place for pulling out of tackles. The good news is that Mark's kept going to the end, everyone in the league has dropped at least 2 points and there are still 57 to play for! The Man of the Match was Mick Corcoran although John Dooley ran him close with a great second half performance.

Training Notice

It is apparent that there is a greater demand for training facilities than we can satisfy. To avoid overcrowding and to ensure a reasonable level of football, we will have to cut numbers. Priority will be given to those that have paid the training fee in full. To those that have already paid - many thanks. To those that haven't-don't delay if you want a place for the season.

St Mark's 0 National FC 4

The St Mark's Sunday team went down to a heavy 0-4 defeat at the feet of National FC on the Astro Pitch in Ringsend Park yesterday. Mark's carried very little threat up front and the margin could have been wider but for some good defending and some poor National finishing. It's still early days, so plenty of time to knuckle down and turn things around.

St Aidan's 5 St Mark's 4

The Mark's Sunday team went down 5-4 in windy conditions in Tallaght today. The grass on the pitch was so long that it made good football very difficult. Despite this Marks were 2-0 up after 30 minutes and led 4-2 with half an hour to go. A draw would have been a fair result, but St Aidan's superior fitness showed when they netted in the last five mins to take all three points. Scorers Gerald Flood 2,Glen Trehy 1,Rolandas Krukauskas 1.

St Mark's Seniors scored a creditable 2-2 draw in a friendly against Irishtown FC in Ringsend Park tonight. It was an entertaining match with plenty of good football. Mark's came from behind twice and on balance should have edged it. The result was unimportant as the idea was to get a good workout. The standout performers were Ian McManus, Ali Kidd, Michael Corcoran, Simon Hussey and Gerry O'Dwyer. Scorers Ian McManus(pen); Karl O'Grady(1)
